Skate UK Group Lessons FAQ

How do I apply for lessons?

Spaces are bookable on a first-come-first-served basis for Junior Learn to Skate and Adult Learn to Skate, Phases 1-3, via our Course Hub on MySportAberdeen. Skate Tots classes are also bookable online.

If your preferred class is full, please add yourself or your child to the waiting list and you will be notified when a space becomes available.

What happens during lessons?

Lessons are delivered in groups and last 30 minutes, with a qualified coach supporting skaters on the ice. When you arrive, please check in at reception before getting ready for your session. Skate hire is included if you need it. Once you have your skates on, please make your way to the side of the rink in plenty of time for your lesson to begin.

What should I wear?

For those just starting out, we recommend you dress in warm clothes that are non-restrictive e.g. leggings/stretchy trousers and a long sleeve top. Wearing lots of layers is a good idea and you can layer down if needed. Younger children are advised to bring a helmet for the first few lessons. Gloves are not required but are recommended, especially for those just starting out.

How do I progress?

At Ice Aberdeen we deliver the British Ice Skating Skate UK syllabus. There are eight levels in the basic learn to skate programme, Phase 1-8, followed by four Star levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. You will progress through these as you pass each element with gradings taking place approximately every 6-weeks.

How can I experience other ice disciplines?

Alongside the Skate UK syllabus, we work with many individual clubs, offering their own trial sessions to each individual discipline. Contact the venue to find out more!

How do I join a club?

Our clubs at the Linx Ice Arena welcome skaters at different levels of the programme and you will be introduced to these at various stages throughout the year. To find out more about the clubs based at the Linx Ice Arena, please visit our Ice Skating page under the sub header Clubs.

How do I pay?

Payment for Learn to Skate lessons is via monthly Direct Debit membership, with a minimum contract of one month.
